According to our sources, Sony Pictures Classics is expected to release their drama ELEANOR THE GREAT on VOD and digital platforms later this month, arriving on October 28th, 2025. The film world premiered in the Un Certain Regard section of this year’s Cannes Film Festival, and launched in US theaters on September 26th.
Please note: Sony Pictures Classics has neither announced nor confirmed the release date. As always, release dates are subject to change.
Eleanor the Great is directed by Scarlett Johansson and written by Tory Kamen. It stars June Squibb, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Jessica Hecht, and Erin Kellyman.
In the film, June Squibb brings to vivid life the witty and proudly troublesome 94-year-old Eleanor Morgenstein, who after a devastating loss, tells a tale that takes on a dangerous life of its own. Scarlett Johansson’s directorial debut is a comically poignant exploration of how the stories we hear become the stories we tell.
We’ve added the release date to our Streaming Calendar. Check out the film’s official trailer below.
